Macro for $10

When I first heard about Reversing Rings for Macro I though it was too good to be true. Macro for $10, no way; well I stand corrected as my newest purchase arrived today.   reverse macro

All you need is two lenses, one with a 52mm thread and the other with a 62mm thread, and this ring. Now 52 & 62 are pretty common threads in the Nikon world, and I think Canon as well so you likely already have a pair of lenses. After you get it you screw the lenses together making on big lens (which is quite heavy).

For this set-up I attached a 75-300mm Nikkor with the 58mm Noct-Nikkor

I also used a Mini-tripod to hold this system steady.

The Mini Tripod going into the telephoto tripod collar so that the reverse end of the lens can be situated about a quarter of an inch off the ground. Now I should note that the ring is made of metal, make sure you get that one and fasten it securely. If you get a reversing ring that is made of plasic, it will not take the strain. Once I had the set-up ready I started to take some pictures. Now it is not easy using the lenses I had picked as they actually move when you focus, newer/different lenses would make the work much easier; that said the closer you got to your subject it got exponentially more difficult to handle. Overall they turned out well for a first attempt:

Overall not a bad result for $10, and I'm sure I will get better as time goes on. .

You can also buy from the big wigs - B&H for more money, but as its a simple item, why pay more?
