Lets start off with something easy; a good off-camera flash portrait. Will begin with the basics, her head takes up 1/2 of the vertical space in the picture and she is smiling and has good posture.
Hair Light from the Back
I do have a small issue with the hair-light from the back. I find it too strong beside her right ear (your left); and by casting light on the right side of the background (which oddly enough is the same colour as her hair) causes your eyes to focus in on the right side of her face and picture. Ideally the back ground would be either dark or a gradient starting from one side to the other; if it was a solid colour the attention would be more centered on her.

Here is a video (Turn your sound down first) that is making its way through the photography world. Although I agree that you don’t need a DSLR for good picture the Canon G9 is basically a DSLR in a P&S form. It has a hotshoe, one of the best sensors on the market (for Point & Shoot) and a host of manual features not present in many P&S cameras. Continue reading →
